Recycling - why is it important?
Recycling is an excellent way of saving energy and conserving the environment. Here are some of the benefits:
  • Helps keep cosmetic packaging out of landfill!
  • Reinforces Origins commitment to the environment
  • Improves waste management
  • What is the recycling programme at Origins all about?
Origins are teaming up with WasteCare, a waste management company, to help us achieve our recycling solution and keep cosmetic packaging out of landfill! Empty cosmetic containers ACROSS ALL COSMETIC BRANDS can be dropped off at any Origins counter nationwide in special recycling bins. All returned packaging will be picked up by WasteCare and sent to a recycling depot where it will be recycled or reused for energy recovery.
    What can be recycled?
The Origins Recycling Programme will accept only empty cosmetic packaging that protects the actual beauty product, whether it be plastic or cardboard. Cosmetic packaging may never find a home in your typical street side recycling, but we have an opportunity to find new uses for packaging that may otherwise end up in a landfill. Origins will accept cosmetic packaging - regardless of brand - and recycle them for you or use them for energy recovery.
How are components that cannot be recycled used for energy recovery?
Waste to Energy facilities generate electricity and/or steam from waste by feeding mixed municipal waste into large furnaces dedicated solely to burning waste and producing power. These facilities perfected the science of converting waste to steam and electricity, while strictly controlling emissions.
Why can't most cosmetic packing be recycled in the typical way?
Recyclers can only accept those items made from materials that are easily recognisable such as PET (soft drinks and water bottles) or HDPE (milk or detergent bottles). Most community recycling guidelines don?t include cosmetic closures (such as compacts or lipstick cases) because they do not readily recognise the materials they are made from.
