9 Tips for How To Achieve Glowing Skin

Glowing skin, in all its luminous glory, is a skincare goal so many of us aspire to achieve. When your skin glows, you do, too—it’s the ultimate confidence booster. Believe it or not, glowing skin is easier to achieve than you may think. All you have to do is prioritize good skin and self-care practices. “The pursuit of a radiant complexion relies heavily on consistent care, which includes cleansing, moisturizing, exfoliating, and sun protection,” says Tyla Robinson, Manager, Global Product Development. Lifestyle factors, such as hydration and proper sleep, can also impact skin's luminosity. By committing to a few small changes, you can easily put your skin on the path to radiance. Not sure where to start? With the help of our Origins skincare experts, we compiled our top tips for glowing skin. Let’s get you glowing.

Tip 1: CLEANSE REGULARLY

One of the first and most important steps to achieving glowing skin is cleansing regularly. Think about what your skin is exposed to daily. The moment you step outside, environmental pollutants can accumulate on your skin. Throw in some makeup, oil, sweat, and sunscreen, and you have the perfect recipe for dull skin and clogged pores. “Cleansing your skin not only creates a clean, fresh canvas, but it also paves the way for the absorption of the skincare products that follow, which is beneficial for glowing skin” says Robinson.

Using a daily cleanser, like Checks and Balances™ Frothy Face Wash, morning and night ensures skin is prepped and ready for its next steps. if you wear makeup and sunscreen, You may even want to consider Double Cleansing, particularly at night . This technique calls for two cleansers—one oil-based and one water-based— to ensure the removal of any leftover residue. All in all, a well-cleansed canvas sets the stage for a naturally radiant complexion.

Tip 2:  MOISTURIZE DAILY

This step is just as important as cleansing. “Moisturizing your face daily is essential for achieving glowing skin because it helps maintain optimal hydration levels,” says Robinson. When your skin is optimally hydrated, it appears smooth, plump, and naturally radiant. Moisturizers also act as a protective barrier, preventing water loss. Choose a moisturizer with antioxidants to help to shield skin from environmental stressors, which may reduce skin’s natural luminosity. One important note about moisturizing: make sure you’re using the right moisturizer for your skin type . Finding the right moisturizer will give your skin everything it craves to shine (radiantly, not oily).

Tip 3: SPF ALWAYS

UV rays are one of the leading causes of premature aging; sun damage can rear its head in the form of dryness, dark spots, and wrinkles. Applying SPF year-round (yes, even on cloudy days) is essential for the overall health and well-being of your skin. “A routinely protected complexion looks radiant and youthful.” says Robinson. To help do this, get into the habit of applying SPF every morning. Moisturizers that include SPF, like A Perfect World™ SPF 40 Age Defense Moisturizer, make it easy to start.

Tip 4:  MIND YOUR BARRIER

“Your skin’s barrier is one of the most important factors of glowing skin,” says Robinson. Your skin barrier helps keep the bad stuff out, like pollutants and microbes, pollutants, and the good stuff in, like water. When your barrier is compromised, skin can appear dull, dry, red, and irritated. Incorporating products that have barrier-boosting nutrients, like moisture-boosting Ceramides and the skin-soothing Mushrooms in our Mega-Mushroom™ Restorative Skin Concentrate, can support your barrier to help boost strength, resiliency and, yes,  radiance.

Tip 5: APPLY VITAMIN C

Vitamin C is a favorite for glowing skin because of its multifaceted benefits. It's a potent antioxidant that fights free radicals that can lead to skin damage and dullness. Vitamin C also helps visibly brighten the complexion to support a more even tone.  By incorporating a Vitamin C infused serum into your skincare routine, like our GinZing™ Into the Glow Brightening Serum, you’re one step closer to glowing skin.

Tip 6: MAKE A DATE TO EXFOLIATE

One of the best things you can do for glowing skin is exfoliate. And not just once a month, but two to three times a week, depending on your skin type. Every time you exfoliate, you’re removing dry skin and clearing clogged pores, both of which can make your skin appear dull. Plus, sloughing off dead surface skin cells reveals fresh, healthy, glowing skin underneath. “There is no disputing the value of exfoliation to enhance skin radiance. It encourages cell turnover, which can result in improved texture, tone, and a more vibrant, radiant complexion” says Robinson. There are two types of facial exfoliators: chemical, which typically contain skin-friendly acids to dissolve the bonds between skin cells. And granular exfoliation which use a combination of tiny particles, along with some light elbow-grease to smooth skin’s surface. Both result in whisking away dullness and enhancing radiance.

Tip 7:  FACE MASK WEEKLY

There are two reasons you want to include a weekly face mask in your glowing skin routine. First, face masks are like giving yourself an at-home facial. They address specific concerns, like hydration and brightening, and provide a surge of beneficial ingredients to help nourish, balance and rejuvenate. Second, the ritual of applying a mask offers a well-deserved moment of self-care and relaxation. And when you’re happy and relaxed, we at Origins believe it can reflect in your skin.

Tip 8: PROPERLY HYDRATE

“As much as 60% of our body is made up of water! And we know that the water level in skin declines with age. Staying hydrated is important for general health as well as skin,” says Robinson.

Tip 9: GET YOUR BEAUTY SLEEP

The relationship between sleep and your skin is real. “During deep sleep, the skin undergoes several restorative functions,” explains Robinson. Lack of sleep is associated with reduced barrier function and moisture loss. This can eventually lead to a lackluster complexion. Getting adequate sleep (upwards of 7 hours) is like an insurance policy for your skin: you rise—and you shine.

Time To Glow
Unlocking your skin’s radiance is easy to achieve with the right skin and self-care practices. Cleansing, moisturizing and, of course, sun protection are key. Prioritizing sleep and proper hydration can also support a naturally luminous complexion. While it does require a little commitment, once you start to see the results, you’re going to want to keep glowing.
